Numerical Modeling
Our hydrogeologists have completed aquifer tests and developed groundwater flow models for hydrologic systems across Europe. We deliver objective and accurate technical analysis that is based on field experience coupled with a clear understanding of theory.
We believe that groundwater projects are becoming more and more demanding, requiring special knowhow and expertise. For INTERGEO, whose experts can rely on many years of experience, sustainable groundwater management is regarded to be one of the most important key questions. In terms of numerical modeling of groundwater flow, contaminant, groundwater age and heat transport simulations, we trust in FEFLOW, a modeling software with very sophisticated capabilities.
Numerical modeling of groundwater flow:
- Planning of well locations and designing of capture zones for drinking water wells and other groundwater abstractions
- Dewatering in civil engineering
- Forecast and prognosis of changes in water levels during construction works (gravel mining, surface mining, reservoir dam, etc.)
- Hydraulic design of remediation measures
- Water rights licensing procedures and environmental impact assessments of groundwater extraction and other interventions in the aquifer
- Groundwater management
Numerical modeling of solute transport in groundwater:
- Forecast and prognosis of plume/solute spreading in the aquifer
- Reactive transport and fade (chemical and biochemical reactions)
- Interface to hydrochemical modeling
- Quantification of natural degradation of contaminants (natural attenuation)
- Causal analysis, source identification, risk assessment
- Development of remediation strategies
- Development of monitoring concepts (MNA)
- Control of in-situ remediation measures
- Monitoring of remediation measures
- Forecasting of the qualitative composition of pumped groundwater (e. g. in civil engineering projects in the vicinity of contaminated sites)
Numerical modeling of heat transport in groundwater:
- Simulation and visualization of spreading of temperature plumes
- Simulation of heat transfer for planning of geothermal installations
- Simulation of thermal effect caused by heat exchanger arrays (closed loop system)
- Simulation of thermal effect caused by extraction and infiltration of groundwater (open loop system)
- Location qualification for groundwater heat usage
