Langley Soil and Groundwater Investigation and Remediation
The remediation of a heavily contaminated 26 hectare former vehicle assembly site close to Heathrow Airport. End uses for the site were to be one third residential development and two thirds commercial/industrial hard cover. Targets for the remediation of the site were set appropriately and generally conformed to ICRCL recommendations, if more suitable, Dutch standards were used.
53.000 m³ of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil was bioremediated in windrows/biopiles and backfilled
20.000 tons of hazardous waste (PAH and heavy metals) were specially disposed of using selected excavation
The amount of l/s that was remediated was adjusted to the progress of the soil remediation.
7.000m³ of groundwater skimmed to remove free-floating product. 150.000m³ of TPH-contaminated groundwater was pumped and cleaned.196.000 m³ of groundwater was processed by air stripping and activated carbon filters to remove volatile organic compounds.
Investigation of the site (soil and groundwater) by drilling, trail pits, sampling, analysis, reporting.
Planning and executing the remediation.
