Intergeo was responsible for planning and execution of the water remediation measures during the remediation of the gasworks site. Digging below the groundwater level was necessary, therefore it was also necessary to pump groundwater and pass it through a cleaning unit (combination of sand filter and activated carbon cleaning) and cleaned to a point where it could be routed directly into the runoff ditch and from there into the river Salzach. The PAH values of the water routed into the rivers was <10 μg/l.

Intergeo, in cooperation with the construction company, was also responsible for the cleaning of the contaminated excavated material. A total of 40.000 to of contaminated material was first cleaned using a soil washing unit. The severely contaminated fine material remaining after the washing process (7.000 to) was disposed of in a stationary high-temperature incineration unit.
