Monitoring from an environmental technology perspective means the recurring testing of the conditions of a soil or groundwater remediation.Hereby one can recognize changes in environmentally relevant parameters or a further spread of the contamination in a timely fashion and begin corrective measures.
Usually it takes the form of water sampling from groundwater sampling points and analysis in regular intervals with additional reporting.
Monitoring is used where there is no significant danger potential from the contaminated site or when a remediation is not initially possible due to technical or organisational reasons.
